工业产品模型主要制作是通过利用发泡沫材料制作出所需要的产品模型外观，然后在上面覆盖一层加入固化剂的树脂材料，假如对产品模型的强度需要进一步要求的话，可在树脂层上加上一层薄薄的玻璃纤维，在玻璃纤维上面再刷一层加入了固话剂的树脂，然后用腻子或云石膏将产品模型表面打平，喷漆。本技术的制作方法对工具的要求不是很高，加工简单方便，做好的产品模型质量很轻，而且可以有较高的强度，完全可以达到产品模型的要求，甚至在某些场合也可以当场试实际产品来运用，比如太阳能车的头部。
